Week 30: Photo Dump

Image
So I finally found and bought the doohickey that allows me to connect my camera to the computer, which means I can finally show the smorgasborg of pictures I've taken here on the mission... (all 5 of them). Here is the zone of Mauá! I'm not going to name everyone because there's a lot of people and I'm lazy. The Sister next to me is my companion, Sister Melo Hey Hey, Peanut Butter! (and jelly! and jelly! and jelly!) Me, Sister Melo, Sister Sivincha, e Sister Arruda My watch tan! I know everyone was waiting to see how bad it is. Honestly it's worse when the lighting is better Here's the cute little Plan of Salvation diagram I made. On the back it has all the scriptures references and stuff and I am more than a little proud of it. Sorry the picture's so blurry Today is transfers and I'm moving again, this time for Santo André. I'll have a new companion and everything and I'm very excited (but I also have to p

Week 29: ♫ It's a Typical Day... ♫

So nothing wild happened this week (except that I FINALLY went in and got the package that my parents sent me two months ago, and have been feasting on peanut butter ever since), so I thought I'd tell y'all what a normal day was like. 6:25 - Wake up and pray 6:29 - Pray specifically for the mission 6:40 - Start exercising. Generally this means stretching, mellow yoga, resting, and once in a while, on the really intense days, sit-ups or something. 7:10 - Shower and have breakfast! The food here isn't super different, so typically this means eggs or bread. We don't have a toaster, but we have this weird sandwich maker thing that you can put bread in which is basically the same thing. Also we eat a ton of fruit (I've fallen in love with goiaba) and tapioca (which isn't actually pudding; it's kind of like a tortilla, I guess, or a pale pancake). 8:00 - Personal study. We have a solid hour to study the scriptures, Preach My Gospel, and prepare intellectually and

Week 28

So last week I said pretty much everything important, so I thought this week I'd share some pictures. The problem is my camera is a potato and I have yet to figure out how to consistently upload the pictures (and also I always forget to take pictures...) and so I found a few on the mission website and shamelessly stole all the good ones. Maybe one day I'll finally figure out how to post my own, but until then, enjoy these.  So here we have my first companion (Sister Gomes), my second companion (Sister K. Souza), me, a random Sister whom I don't know, my current companion (Sister Melo), and in the front is another American (Sister Anderson) who arrived the same day as me. Here are the two Sisters we're living with, Sister Arruda and Sister Sivincha. Sister Sivincha is from Bolivia (where they speak Spanish) and has a little more than 2 months in the field. Sister Arruda has a year and one month and is from Matto Grosso, Brasil.  Here's the whole miss

Week 27: 6 MAISES NA MISSÃO!

So as of tomorrow, I have officially spent 6 months serving as a missionary. In other words, I've already passed the 1/3 mark of the mission and have less than a year before I return home. What a time! Today I thought I'd do a little summary of all the stuff I've done in these six months. Transfers: 0- Missionary Training Center, with Sister Jones and Sister Miller 1- Riberão Pires, Santista, with Sister Gomes 2- ditto 3- same area, with Sister K. Souza 4- Maua, Pilar, with Sister Melo Baptisms: 1- Nadir! (love that woman) Things I've gained: -weight (not going to say how much, 1) because the scales here are in kilos and I'm not 100% sure how much it is in real units, and 2) because I'm slightly ashamed...) -a comprehensive Portuguese mission vocabulary (I'm reasonably sure I could be considered fluent now... what a scary thought) - leg muscles (a gente anda até o pó) -a cute li'l pink bible (yes I use this while proselyting... it's less heavy than m
