Week 38: Baptism by Fire

Image
No, I don't have an awesome story where something caught on fire. They light fires in the streets sometimes but they don't hurt anything and I'm used to it now. I just wanted to say that Rosita and Samanta were confirmed yesterday.  Not a ton else happened this week. We met a teen who is a little Pastor, who has already read the entire bible. We taught the Restoration and talked about the Book of Mormon and he got really curious. He was curious enough to go to church with us yesterday, where he met some guys who know the bible better than I do who could answer some of his deep questions. He kind of just wants to Bible-bash but he's starting to understand that it really is true. We'll see where he goes. Also we had a Zone Conference. It was pretty cool. We learned things. There was this tree thing in the chapel where we had the conference and I thought it looked pretty swanky. So as missionaries, we have a few lessons that we teach, but our Mission Presi...

Week 37: AS AGUAS DO BATISMO pt.2

Image
A while back we met this lady on the street. She passed on her address and we marked a date to visit. But when we got to the house, we found a different person who said that no one actually lived there, and that the place was under construction. We got a little put out because she seemed so nice we couldn't believe that she had passed on a wrong number. (Lots of people give us fake addresses but she was nice and I was sure it was real).  We gave up and moved on to other people. But a week later we met her again, and she asked why we didn't go to her house. We explained what had happened and she said that the house had several families living there and it was only the first (the only one visible from the street) that was empty. We remarked a visit and this time, we found her and started to teach. She cried when we taught her about the gospel. She's had a tough life and has really been looking for God. She accepted gratefully an invitation to go to church and walked ...

Week 36: AS AGUAS DO BATISMO

This week the computer I'm using has a really awful keyboard so I'm going to do this in pictures. Enjoy! BATISMO!!! Here we have Kethelynn and Kemmily, who are the cutest girls you've ever met. They're super excited about the gospel and were baptized yesterday! They ate all the cake... but that's okay; it was their special day. We were visiting Kethelynn and Kemmily and they stole my camera and started filming things. I thought I'd take advantage of it so I filmed a video for y'all! The only problem is that it's in Portuguese (and also is really quiet and I'm not sure why). Anyway. Enjoy! Kethelynn made this for me. It means, "Don't let your fears decide for you."   Our zone! Everyone's crazy The world's saddest sight. I'm finally running out of peanut butter. This jar, at least..... Randomness that makes me happy So we have this thing where we challenge pe...

Week 35: Q&A

So I thought it would be cool to do a Q&A today... (mostly because nothing too interesting happened this week). Thanks everyone for sending in your questions. Hope y'all enjoy. So, what is it that you do all day exactly? Good question. In the morning we study the scriptures and practice teaching, and then we go out and help people build their faith in Christ, repent of their sins, and prepare to be baptized. We talk with people on the streets and offer to visit them, and then we go to their houses and teach. We teach about the restauration of the gospel of Christ and how it is central to the plan of God. What advice would you give to someone preparing for a mission? Yo, missions are hard. Seriously. It's a challenge physically, emotionally and especially spiritually. You have to talk with strangers, walk all day long, deal with rejection, and learn how to rely on the Lord for everything. But it's so good. You learn to see people the way that God sees them and love them ...
