Week 43: A Baptism and a Devotional

A while back we had a party at the church, and one of the members brought two friends along. We talked a little bit with them and got their addresses, and they enjoyed the activity. One of the guys lives kind of far away in a part of the area we don't go to much, but one day we decided to try to visit him.

Walking there we got a little lost (as usual... heh) and on the way we met a few people that weren't super interested in the church, and weren't quite as excited as we usually are. Honestly it was kind of a rough day and when we finally found his street we didn't have much excitement. So we were approaching the house and I started talking, trying to psych up my companion. I said, "This guy is going to be so cool, he's going to *love* the gospel, and he'll be super pshyched to go to church Sunday. He'll be baptized super quick and in a year he'll go on a mission, too!"

We got to the door and the friend, the member, answered. He invited us in and we had a really good lesson with the two of them. That lead to more lessons and yesterday he was baptized. It all happened exactly as I said (without much hope) on that dreary day.

Wesley is the short one and his friend is the tall one and Wesley's mom is the fabulous one and the kid in front isn't related to anyone, he was just there and wanted to join in. I think he gives a nice effect, though. Very official.

Honestly I don't think Wesley smiled in a single one of the photos but that's fine, I didn't want a nice picture anyway...

Also we had a devotional with Elder Carboni, which is a member of the Quorum of the Seventy and ooh, it was so good. He talked about the gathering of Israel and the blessings of the priesthood (temple sealings, baptism, etc.) and our responsibility to share these blessings with everyone. He answered a ton of questions that other missionaries asked, and my mind about exploded. It was so good.

Also some people have asked about the fires here. We haven't been super affected (It was happening pretty far away, in Mato Grosso until Bolívia) but Monday there was a ton of smoggy stuff. It got dark really early (like, three in the afternoon it looked like it was seven at night) but apart from that there's been nothing here.

I think that's it. Love y'all! Stay tuned next week when we'll have notes from the devo with the Prophet
