Week 48: You say Goodbye, I say Hello

This week has been one of goodbyes, and also of hellos. Today I was transfered and I've been saying goodbye to a lot of friends, but I'm also eager to get to know new faces too.

Goodbye

Sister Larsen, our roommate and STL who went home to Utah after serving the Lord 18 months faithfully and diligently.

Hello

Sister Sales, the novinha of Sister Larsen, who was my roommate a while back. She will be my new companion and I'm super excited because she's awesome!

Goodbye

Sister Medrano, who has been my companion and amiga for about three months. We get along really great and have not as of yet done Companionship Inventory (which is impressive, given that I am a potato who likes to fight people and am not exactly an easy companion)

Hello

Rudge Ramos, my new Zone (aside: I've been moving steadily in a line. If you find my areas on a map, I go straight from city to city in a linear progression towards the big city of São Paulo. My next area will be São Bernardo, judging by my calculations)

Goodbye

Santo André, meu amor, ceu na terra, cheia de amigos e lembranças. [my love, heaven on earth, full of friends and memories] It's been a good 4.5 months here and I will miss it.

Hello

To new adventures, to new friends, and to new soon-to-be recent converts. We're going to baptize everyone in Rudge Ramos, just you wait.

Kethelynn and Kemmily, who were baptized about three months ago. Kemmily was messing around with something and somehow her face turned red, but I have been assured that it is not, in fact, blood

Not going to lie, I'm really going to miss those girls

This week the computer I'm using has a really awful keyboard so I'm going to do this in pictures. Enjoy! BATISMO!!! Here we have Kethelynn and Kemmily, who are the cutest girls you've ever met. They're super excited about the gospel and were baptized yesterday! They ate all the cake... but that's okay; it was their special day. Week 8: Eu Não Falo Português.... (muito bem)

So it´s been about two weeks in Brasil now, and boy-oh-boy it´s been a time. A good time, of course, but there have been some things to get used to. Like the language, for example. Fun fact: the people in Brasil speak Portuguese (also the keyboards are slightly different so please forgive any weird punctuation). And not only do they speak Portuguese, but they speak it quickly and about lots of different things using about a billion different words and the´re strung so tightly together that by the time you remember what the first word means they've finished the sentence. I've definitely been learning, though, and now I sometimes actually understand the gist of what people are saying. I have learned some new phrases, though. If you are ever invited to lunch in Brasil, try some of these phrases: Eu não estou com muito fome ~ I am starving* Apenas um poco mais ~ Pile it on, please Desculpa, estou cheia! ~ I haven´t eaten in a week, please give me more food Se eu como um outro

Week 28

So last week I said pretty much everything important, so I thought this week I'd share some pictures. The problem is my camera is a potato and I have yet to figure out how to consistently upload the pictures (and also I always forget to take pictures...) and so I found a few on the mission website and shamelessly stole all the good ones. Maybe one day I'll finally figure out how to post my own, but until then, enjoy these.  So here we have my first companion (Sister Gomes), my second companion (Sister K. Souza), me, a random Sister whom I don't know, my current companion (Sister Melo), and in the front is another American (Sister Anderson) who arrived the same day as me. Here are the two Sisters we're living with, Sister Arruda and Sister Sivincha. Sister Sivincha is from Bolivia (where they speak Spanish) and has a little more than 2 months in the field.
