Week 43: A Baptism and a Devotional

Image
A while back we had a party at the church, and one of the members brought two friends along. We talked a little bit with them and got their addresses, and they enjoyed the activity. One of the guys lives kind of far away in a part of the area we don't go to much, but one day we decided to try to visit him.  Walking there we got a little lost (as usual... heh) and on the way we met a few people that weren't super interested in the church, and weren't quite as excited as we usually are. Honestly it was kind of a rough day and when we finally found his street we didn't have much excitement. So we were approaching the house and I started talking, trying to psych up my companion. I said, "This guy is going to be so cool, he's going to *love* the gospel, and he'll be super pshyched to go to church Sunday. He'll be baptized super quick and in a year he'll go on a mission, too!" We got to the door and the friend, the member, answered. He invit...

Week 42: Não Falo Inglês [I don't speak English]

Se não deseje receber estas cartas cada semana, ou se conhece alguém que gostaria os receber, fala para mim e vou arrumar a lista. Também pode ler a história na www.sisterhiattsadventures.blogspot.com [If you do not wish to receive these letters every week, or if you know someone who would like to receive them, talking to me and I will arrange the list. You can also read the story in www.sisterhiattsadventures.blogspot.com ] Olá amigos! [Hello friends! How are you? This week I thought it would be nice to prove that I am, in fact, learning Portugu...

Week 41: Photo Dump

This week not a ton happened but we did a photo shoot in the park so please enjoy some cute photos (I hope we didn't look too touristy... oops) T06 Companheiras Plaquetas.JPG T06 Flor Amarelo.JPG T06 Plaqueta.JPG T06 Comp Plaquetas.JPG T06 Flor Rosa.JPG DSCF0336.JPG T06 LdM.JPG There's a cool statue thing that says SANTO ANDRÉ and it's pretty cool, except that it's huge and tricky to take pictures. Anyway, we tried T06 SA Coração.JPG T06 SantoAndreOlha.JPG T06 Santo Andre.JPG I don't know if we have this in the States, but here we have this chocolate called BIS that's like a chocolate wafer thing. Anyway, they started doing this thing where each wrapper has a design and if you glue them all together it makes a cool picture. So I may have eaten a little too much chocolate this week but we've got three neat picture things T06 Bis Amazonas.JPG T06 Bis Zombie 2.JPG T06 Bis.JPG I think that's it (or at least, here are all the good ones. 7 Brazilian Recipes That Will Spice Up Your Week

Image
Are you lacking excitement in your life? Would you like to experience a whole new world of flavor? Try these 7 recipes straight from Brasil and savor the flavors. You won't want to return to the norm again! 1. Feijoada This dish is clasic here in Brasil. It's a stew made from black beans and meat served over rice. You can throw in any kind of meat you have handy-- pork, pig leg, an ear, literally anything. Don't let anything go to waste! You can-- and should-- use every part of the pig. 2. Stroganoff You may have tried this Russian dish, but you've never tried it Brasilian-style. It's too simple to be believed-- just mix together ketchup and cream, and serve over chicken and rice. It's ridiculously easy-- and very tasty. 3. Cachorro Quente This isn't your typical hot dog. Mix things up by adding tomato sauce, mashed potatoes, and corn. 4. Suco de Frutas Now I know what you're thinking. Fruit juice is just for kids-- but that's not true. This isn'...
