Semana 55: I See Fire
(Note from the editor: Sorry I didn't post this sooner... I was on vacation and forgot.)
But first I gotta explain something. Here in Brasil there are a few small differences with regards to electrical safety. In the States, we go a little overboard when it comes to safety. Everything is wheelchair accessible, we use modern technology to avoid danger, and electricity is always kept far from water.
In Brasil they're a little more relaxed about safety... especially about that last one. We have an outlet that's half hidden behind the kitchen faucet and like ten plugs in one extension cord, but the coolest thing is our shower head. There's just one knob for the water and we adjust the temperature through a turn-y thing on the shower head. But to heat up the water, there's three wires from the wall to the shower head that work their magic inside the thing so that it's hot.
So one day my companion was taking a hot shower (like usual). Just that when she opened the bathroom door the fire alarm went off and we found that one of the wires had caught on fire, and each time we started the hot water it would burn even more. I'm a rebel and tried to turn on the heat but even agua lukewarm started sparks and inspired fear in the hearts of the children so I had to stop.
This was a week ago, but the mission office is going a little crazy right now (we don't actually have assistants to the president right now...) and so finally yesterday we mentioned it to a member and he came and fixed it for us.
Also we had a zone conference and learned that we have to, like, focus on the mission and have "desires to serve God" in order to have success (read: baptisms).
That's all. Good luck and good night
Sister Hiatt
