Semana 61: Chuva! Peço-te que caia devagar
So this week we had a few awesome adventures. The first one was on Wednesday, when we decided to head to the furthest point in our area to see if our Haitiano (who had already gone to church a few times) had returned after New Years. The problem is that he lives super far away (one street more and it would be another ward) and doesn't have a cell phone. So we were truckin´on out and when we were almost there, it started to rain. But not just normal rain. It was as if God decided to break the covenant he made with Noah and drown the whole world again.
So we took out our umbrellas and started to run. We managed to find a store that was open and had a covered space in the front where we took refuge. Crossing the street to get to the store was a trip. The water was already rising and was about ankle level, but we ran and somehow made it across okay. But the second we made it to the covered space, thunder boomed and God started up the ultra-power fire hoses He's got hidden in the clouds for special occasions. And things got wild.

You know those day-glo orange barrier things they put so that the cars don't go the wrong way: You know, the huge heavy ones? We watched as one was carried away in the water and drifted down stream, crossing lanes and stirring up confusion. We watched a small car die in the gutter trying to shift gears. We even watched a waterfall start to form starting at the sidewalk we wanted to pass to get to our investigator's house.
After a while the rain died down and the floods diminished a bit. We had to double back to find a place to cross where the water wasn't super ridiculously deep but after much searching we finally made it to Roody's house.... just to find that he wasn't home.
But other than that, this week was pretty awesome. I went on splits with another Sister, we brought a guy to the chapel to show him around and have him meet the young men of the ward (they were playing soccer), I marked 1 year and 2 months on the mission, and yeah. It was a pretty cool week.
I want y'all to know that the church is true. God really does exist and He loves us a lot, and he gets really proud of us when we make the right choice and return to Him. Sometimes we sin, sometimes we get sad, and sometimes we just don't feel like doing what's right, but when we give our will to Him and do what He asks, He will bless us and we will feel better. It's a tricky task but it's worth it.
Love you all!
